Role Summary:
As an In-House Workers' Compensation Attorney, you will be responsible for managing litigation, settlement negotiations, and compliance with California workers' compensation laws. You will manage workers compensation department and help in mitigating risks.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Oversee the management of workers' compensation cases including investigation, assessment, and litigation of claims.
  • Legal Advice: Provide legal advice to the company on workers' compensation laws, risk management, and claim prevention strategies.
  • Representation: Represent the company in hearings, trials, mediations, lien settlements, and before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding workers' compensation, workplace safety, and employment law.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external legal counsel, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on claim trends, costs, and risk management strategies to senior management. Help in the review of labor contracts.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers' compensation law, preferably representing employers.
  • Deep understanding of California workers' compensation laws and the WCAB process.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in workers compensation law or related fields.
  • Familiarity with the staffing industry, if applicable to the company's sector.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
